Point Lonsdale at the southern tip of the Bellarine has the strongest coastal exposure of any Bellarine suburb. Bass Strait swells and salt-laden onshore winds make pool barrier corrosion the dominant local issue — and the holiday-rental density adds a layer of compliance complexity that inland suburbs don't face.

Council: Most Point Lonsdale addresses fall under City of Greater Geelong, but a small slice toward Queenscliff is in the Borough of Queenscliffe (separate council). The boundary follows older township lines and isn't intuitive — send us your address and we'll verify which council manages your pool registration before the inspection.
Salt corrosion is the dominant issue. We see more advanced hardware failure in Point Lonsdale than anywhere else on the Bellarine. Aluminium hinges typically last 3-5 years; standard steel 5-7. Marine-grade 316 stainless is genuinely necessary here — anything less is a false economy. If your fence is more than 6 years old and within 500m of the surf, expect at minimum a hinge-and-latch swap at the next inspection.
Holiday rental compliance. Point Lonsdale has one of the highest short-term rental ratios on the Bellarine. The legal owner is responsible for pool safety regardless of who's tenanting at the time of an incident. Stayz and Airbnb increasingly cross-check listings against council pool registers. If your Point Lonsdale property is on either platform, a current Form 23 is non-negotiable.
