Pool Barrier Inspection
Gate, latch, fence and the whole enclosure checked. If it passes, you have the certificate before we drive off.
BPC (formerly the VBA) registered pool safety inspector. Form 23 issued on site when the barrier passes, $250 flat.
Call now — or we'll call you back
After hours or can't talk right now? Leave your name and number and Ryan will call you back the same day where we can.
We only need the pool area. When you book, tell us how to get into the yard: is the side gate locked, is there a dog, who has the key. If you can't be there, a tenant, the agent or a neighbour can open up.
Empty houses come up here. The 2021 Census counted 482 private dwellings in the suburb, and 37 were unoccupied on census night. If yours is one, say who holds the key when you book.
The suburb is about 25 minutes from Clifton Springs, where we're based. Because it's a mix of residential, mixed-use and industrial land, houses sit in pockets, and the suburb name alone won't get us to the right gate. Send the street number and the nearest cross street. We steer by Kardinia Park, South Geelong railway station, the Barwon riverside reserve, and Fyans Street where the warehouses start. The railway line marks the northern edge. If we have another job close by, we pair the two. Neighbouring suburbs are on our areas page.
From Geelong or East Geelong, the visit and the $250 fee are the same. Closer to Thomson? There's more local detail in the Thomson page. Council's side of things is in the Greater Geelong compliance guide. For background, here's what a Form 23 actually certifies. Pools in Highton are covered on our Highton inspection page.
The rules are the same. The ground is the difference. The suburb sits on basalt and river alluvium ground, with the Barwon River on the southern edge and flood-prone ground in parts of the suburb. Soil like that can swell through a wet winter and shrink back in summer, and fence posts move with it. Shift a post far enough and a gate that latched last year stops just short.
Near the river, the pool safety inspection is the standard checklist with more time spent at the gate. We open it to a few different angles, let go, and watch it close and latch on its own every time. We sight the line of the posts along each run too.
And a river beyond the back fence isn't a barrier. The pool still needs its own enclosure on every side.
Usually, yes. The census split for occupied homes runs about two in three separate houses; about three in ten townhouses or semi-detached. On the smaller lots the boundary fence is often one side of the pool barrier, and we inspect it like any other section.
Both faces get checked. On the pool side, nothing a child could climb. On next door's side, nothing stacked or growing against it that would give a leg-up. A wheelie bin pushed against the palings can turn a fence that was fine last month into a fail.
The pool owner answers for the barrier, whoever owns the fence. If a shared panel needs work, sort it out with next door before you call us back, because the free re-inspection only helps once the repair's done. On older lots, check one more thing first. The suburb has 34 mapped heritage overlay areas, and replacing a fence inside one can need a council permit. We write up the defect; the permit is council's call.
The City of Greater Geelong. The whole suburb sits inside it. Our part finishes on site: when the barrier passes, we issue the certificate there and then. Your part is to lodge the Form 23 with the City of Greater Geelong online. The four-year cycle runs from council lodgement, not from the day we inspected.
The Form 23 covers an existing pool or spa, and it's the document people mean by a pool safety certificate. A new pool is signed off by the permit surveyor; we never certify one. Plenty of calls start with a reminder from council, and our page on the council pool barrier letter explains what it asks for.
Council fees, the register and the lodgement links live on our City of Greater Geelong page, so they're kept current in one place. The item-by-item checklist we work through is on the pool barrier inspection page.
